The Maritime Safety Committee stated that all companies should include cyber risk management in the approved SMS according to the objectives and functional requirements of the ISM Code, and ensure that cyber risks are addressed in the SMS no later than the first annual verification of the company's Document of Compliance after 1 January 2021. Increased internet connectivity through the availability of affordable VSAT communications has led to greater risk of cyber incidents.
Existing PCs onboard are often outdated and networked with no added safety protocols — operating systems not updated, anti-virus not installed or not current. Onboard dedicated cyber-security procedures and adequate crew training are often lacking, with users not adhering to or equipped with cyber-security awareness.
This course addresses the lack of maritime cyber-security awareness amongst maritime personnel ashore and afloat.

Food Safety, Hygiene and Nutrition for Ship's Cook and Food Handlers
Food Safety training for ship's cook and food handlers is a requirement of the Maritime Labour Convention 2006 (MLC 2006). Food safety depends heavily on how food is handled. Provision of training to food handlers is important as they are required to constantly make decisions and take actions that could affect food safety. Food handlers should have the knowledge and skills to handle food hygienically and comply with food safety regulations through proper and regular training.
